"Voices V: Perspectives of the Artistic Soul," the City of Boulder's Joint Youth-Adult Juried Art Exhibition, is at the Rembrandt Yard in Boulder, 1301 Spruce, January 8-15. The opening reception is tonight, 6:00-8:30pm.

Says the City of Boulder’s Youth Opportunities Program/ YOAB, "By placing juried pieces of both high school students and adult artists together, the sponsors hope to make a statement to the community: Art can be our opportunity to connect and catalyze relationships among all generations."

“Cloudy Visions” is Pure Beauty

Colleen Hoerner's pastel exhibit “Cloudy Visions” is at the McGuckin Design Center from October 22-31.

The artist says of her work "Although working realistically with many subjects, I find I return to the subject of clouds because of the beauty I see in them. Most of my cloud paintings show reflected light that illuminates on top, underneath, or from with them. I feel clouds can be both fragile and powerful, opaque and transparent, large and small."

The West – Old, New, Wild, True

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the City of Boulder. To celebrate, the Colorado Chautauqua Association has invited Boulder Art Association (BAA) back for their second annual juried art exhibition, September 4-7, at the historic Chautauqua Community House.

The call for entries invited artists to respond in their own, unique ways to capture the beauty, creativity and spirit of the theme, The West — Old, New, Wild, True. Working in various mediums from watercolor to sculpture, photography to oil, artists from all over the state, did just that.

Artwork will be on display for four days in September from the 4th through the 7th. The show opens at noon on Friday, September 4th with a public reception Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The reception will feature live music and an Awards Presentation.

BAA is awarding $2000 in cash awards including a People’s Choice Award to be given away at the end of the exhibit. Exhibit hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A selection of exhibiting artists will be demonstrating their skills during the exhibit hours. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Artist demonstrations are: Saturday, 11am – Watercolor, 2pm – Pastel, 5:30 pm – Photography; Sunday, 11am - Pastel, 2pm – Bronze Sculpture, 3:30pm Oil Painting; Monday, 11am – Soft Pastel, 2pm – Create Art Using Disposables. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

The juror for this exhibit is Mary Williams, owner of Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder, Colorado. Mary Williams has been involved in the fine art business since moving to Colorado in 1981. She spent the first part of her career managing two art galleries and in 1996, she was fortunate enough to open her own. The gallery is located at 2116 Pearl Street in Boulder and specializes in antique prints and maps and original artworks by established Rocky Mountain artists.

Founded in 1923 by Jean Sherwood, an art teacher at Chautauqua, the Boulder Art Association offers demonstrations at their monthly meetings, and many opportunities for artists to gain visibility for their work throughout the county. BAA is dedicated to helping beginning, emerging and professional artists in the creation of fine art, as well as in developing appreciation for the fine arts.

LoLa Images: impermanence. Ethereal beauty at the Dairy's In Focus Gallery

A resident of Boulder since 1971, Lois LaFond is a singer/songwriter and the creator of Lois LaFond & the Rockadiles, the well-known band for Children and their Families since 1984.

For over two years, under the moniker LoLa Images, she has been working with a process of shooting photographs which has resulted in a fascinating series of pictures that are showing at the Dairy Center for the Arts.

impermanence features 26 giclees. The unmanipulated digital images have an unusual sense of musicality which often creates pictures that resemble paintings in their color, contrast and movement. The show hangs in the Dairy’s In Focus Gallery and will run through September 18. In October, LoLa Images will be a featured artist in Open Studios.
